Child Slave Labor–Cocoa

So after last night I started researching child slave labor and it is so overwhelming.  I found one site – www.free2work.org – that rates companies on a scale of A+ to F.  There is lots of info on why the companies got the ratings they did.  For a newbie…it is sooooo overwhelming.  I’m starting to think I can’t buy anything unless its from a garage sale (because if its already been bought once….its ok to buy an offending companies product right????).

So I’m babystepping it right now and I’m trying to listen to where God is calling me and I originally said I was going to focus on Ghana.  Cocoa is one of Ghana’s biggest crops and one of the worst offenders for child slavery.  So I’m focusing on Cocoa.   I’m sorry Laura if you read this!  I’m afraid Hershey’s does not rate well.  Which means I’m going to have to find an alternative to my beloved Whatchamacalit when my 30 days are up!

Kit Kats are the only candy bar that is readily available in our stores that is NOT from areas like Ghana with SLAVE labor!

Of course, I hate kit kats! I noticed last night our church book store has fair trade chocolate though!
